Community + Darkroom

Piney Woods Darkroom is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit community darkroom based in Tyler, Texas, conveniently located just a little off Interstate 20. We offer access to traditional darkroom facilities such as a black and white printing lab (the one with the red lights), a space to develop a variety of film types (black and white, C41, E6, and ECN-2 so far), and soon even the ability to produce RA4 color prints. But that’s not all!

We also offer a variety of classes and one-on-one lessons to help you do everything from discovering just what the heck film photography is, all the way to helping you become a master of the craft. Other workshop opportunities will arise, so keep an eye on our news pages and social media!

As if lab access and instruction weren’t enough, we also sell a variety of film from brands such as Lomography, Atlanta Film Co., Kodak and more. We have cameras of all kinds available for lending and for purchase for in-person customers. Trust us, we’ll make the price worth your while! Since we aren’t a for-profit venture, we’ll do our best to make film and cameras accessible. If you’re far away, however, we do at least offer really cool merch online which you can purchase to support us!

We have so much more to tell you, so stay tuned! Keep an eye on our blog and our socials to find out when we open our doors and more!

We like tangible things

Analog photographic processes — film photography, traditional darkroom printing, cyanotype, and much much more — are alive and well in 2024, and show no signs of slowing down. Piney Woods Darkroom is here to serve those starved for basic darkroom access, or even a good local place to buy film. Donate and spread the word to help us grow. The better we do with fundraising, the better our facilities will be! Click the buttons above to give and learn more!
